Step 1: Understand the Types of Passports

Before you dive headfirst into the application process, it’s essential to identify the type of Nigerian passport you need:

  • Standard Passport: Perfect for regular travel when exploring or conducting business abroad.
  • Diplomatic Passport: Reserved for diplomats on official duties and their families.
  • Official Passport: Issued to government officials undertaking any official trip.

For most travelers, the standard passport will suffice.

Step 2: Gather Necessary Documents

  • Passport Photos: A recent passport-sized photograph meeting specified requirements.
  • Birth Certificate: An original and photocopy will serve as proof of citizenship.
  • National Identity Number (NIN): Acquired from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), your NIN is essential for verification.
  • State of Origin/LG  Identification Letter

Step 3: Application Submission

  1. Head over to the Nigeria Immigration Passport Service website, where you will see the option for online applications.
  2. Click on fresh passport
  3. Input your NIN and date of Birth and enter the code.
  4. If your NIN is active, it will bring out your details(Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Marital Status etc ) for confirmation.
  5. If the information are correct, click on confirm and continue
  6. Fill in your details and upload your documents as specified.

Step 4: Pay the Application Fee

After your application form is filled out, proceed to payment:

32 Pages Passport with 5-year validity is #50,000 excluding third party charges

64 Pages Passport with 10-year validity is #100,000

Online Payment: The portal provides secure options for payment via debit cards, bank transfer etc. Save or print your receipt, as you may be asked for it later.

Step 5: Book an Appointment

Upon completing your online application: schedule your appointment for your biometric.

Step 6: Await your Passport production notification
